Medusa

$75.00

Perhaps you've seen the TV ad featuring Medusa, the mythological snake-haired gorgon who gets fed up with turning her friends to stone, so to fix this problem, she orders sunglasses with Prime One Day Delivery. Then comes a scene where Medusa and her girlfriends are partying at a bar. A guy comes in and essentially starts drooling at them. Medusa stares at him, lifts her sunglasses, and he is turned to stone, his face cracking and pieces falling off of it. Her sunglasses go back down and the party goes on. Check out this clever Amazon Prime Ad from the Internet! https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=medusa+ad+on+tv#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:1e168993,vid:mdrS7HGNvbM,st:0

Medusa is a scorned woman with a dangerous power: anyone who looks at her directly will be turned to stone. The only way to "defeat" her was to use her reflection to approach her and behead her, which a warrior named Perseus manages to do. Mirroring is the way to undo the death threat! Men typically use women to get mirroring, much more than they actually mirror a woman and give her a clear sense of her own value. Politics today tends towards depriving women of their rights and independence, penalizing professionals who help women, perhaps imprisoning them.

There are many women who likely wish they had Medusa's powers to help them deal with being heavily sexualized, and worse. Think of the numerous Indigenous women disappeared, likely raped and murdered. Women more and more demand mirroring: recognition and honoring of their needs and realities, being valued for who they are, having independence and a right to pursue the life that calls them. Many times Medusa's power may be turned against themselves, another thing many women are sick of. This toy drops into the midst of all that turmoil and change in a powerful and visceral way!
